We act for a number of independent schools and colleges and can advise on all the main legal issues relevant to their management.

These include selecting or changing the legal structure or vehicle and preparing or amending constitutional documents.  We can also provide ongoing advice to directors or trustees as to their duties under the constitution and the general law.

We can advise on the legal responsibilities of institutions to their pupils and students and on terms and conditions with students or parents.  We can assist in drafting such terms and in structuring arrangements for the annual payment of fees.

We have particular expertise in employment law and have frequently advised schools and colleges in disputes with current and former members of staff.  This has included negotiation with teachers’ unions and their advisers.

We can advise on property transactions including buying, selling and renting premises and on contractual arrangements with third parties paying for the use of facilities.

We also advise schools and colleges on a range of more general legal matters including litigation and contracts of all kinds.
