Selection and bias
When we recruit, we may sub-consciously select people like ourselves. This is a safety mechanism as we naturally assume we will have the same ideas, communicate in the same way and have more in common. Unconscious bias is a barrier to inclusion. We know that teams benefit from diversity and in recruiting in our own image, are we missing candidates with other skills and attributes.
Recruitment and building the psychological contract
The employment experience starts at the moment a candidate becomes aware of our business – what impression do we make? The psychological contract encompasses all that is unwritten in the employment agreement. Our responsibility is to create a strong psychological contract and this can be achieved through a positive experience growing stronger over time.
