Another important update for employers

Nick Jones, Employment Solicitor and head of our team of Bristol Employment Lawyers, reports on government proposals to allow workers to be able to carry over some annual leave into the next two leave years.

Furloughed workers still accrue entitlement to paid annual leave.  Employers have been concerned that they would face high levels of leave requests from furloughed workers once periods of furlough were concluded.  Without government action on the issue, this would create further pressure on employers, who would have to manage and fund these leave requests at a time when they would be working to get their businesses back on track after the effects of the Covid-19 shut down.

The government has helpfully announced that it will amend the law to allow workers to carry over their 20 days annual leave entitlement (pro-rate for part time workers) into the next two leave years, where they have not been able to take leave because of coronavirus.

This will relieve pressure for employers and give them greater flexibility to manage their workforces once the current shut down is concluded.
